Horses can be destructive in small paddocks, so correct pasture management is critical.
Horse and pony paddocks tend to suffer badly as horses and ponies are notoriously bad grazers being selective with what they eat, taking only the best grasses and herbs, leaving heavily grazed fields with area of poor grass and bare areas of earth Yhey will also eat trees, shelters and fences.
In addition to grazing pressure, the ground tends to get 'cut up' by hooves and poached around feeding areas, troughs, gateways and fence lines.
Once bare patches have appeared in grassland, weed seeds which have either blown in or are present in the soil 'seed bank' are given the opportunity to germinate, which will then further push out the grass.
Some of these problems can be alleviated by planning - something Valeag can help you with. We can survey and assess your paddock then find out from you what you require and draw up a management plan which fits your requirements and budget. We can then either carry out work for you or provide you with a plan for you to do the work.
